Mission

The Damien Museum has a threefold mission.

Caring for the Damien heritage

The Damien Museum collects, preserves, researches and opens up, in a sustainable, multi-voiced, innovative, accessible and scientific way, the multifaceted tangible and intangible heritage of Damien, for a broad national and international audience of young and old, in cooperation, interaction and connection with numerous interested and expert national and international partners and the wider society.

Care for Damien and his current values

On the basis of its care for Damien's tangible and intangible heritage, the Damien Museum gives shape to Damien's inspiration and values of solidarity, dialogue, respect, solidarity and social commitment in today's and tomorrow's society, in cooperation and interaction with partners and actors from different social domains (heritage, culture, education, care, etc.), through all kinds of exhibition and educational projects and other public activities that are sustainable and innovative in terms of form and content and which work as a link between people, organisations and social domains.

Caring for people

Together with the neighbours of Huize De Veuster, Woonzorgcentrum (WZC) Damiaan, Damiaanparochie Tremelo-Ninde, the numerous schools in the area, the inhabitants of Baal, Tremelo, Ninde and beyond, the Damiaanmuseum is building one open and hospitable Damian site. The museum involves its neighbours as much as possible in the operation and reception of visitors to the site.

The museum brings people together nationally and internationally and builds bridges between sectors (heritage, education, care and welfare), organisations and governments. In this way, the Damien Museum is firmly and sustainably anchored in the wider heritage community in which everyone engages and participates according to their own ability and talents to work with Damian heritage and current message. From Damian's heritage story and care for its heritage, everyone is invited and challenged to work together towards a more just and humane society.
