Access

Damien's tomb in the Sint-Antonius Chapel is located on Damiaanplein in Leuven city centre.

Damiaanplein is best reached by public transport, by bicycle or on foot.

By train (NMBS)

Take the train to Leuven station. You walk down Bondgenotenlaan to Grote Markt. Standing in front of the Town Hall, take Naamsestraat to the right. When you get to Sint-Michiels Church, take the street down to the right. This is Sint-Antoniusberg. Go further down and you will pass the monastery of the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts (Picpussen). At the foot of Sint-Antoniusberg is Damiaanplein with the Sint-Antonius chapel and Damien's tomb.

For more information on trains and train times, visit the NMBS website.

By bus (De Lijn)

At the railway station in Leuven, you can take the bus. Buses 1 and 2 (direction Heverlee) will take you at regular intervals during the weekdays and in the weekend to nearby Damiaanplein (stop Sint-Michielskerk). You retrace your steps and turn left downhill. This is Sint-Antoniusberg. If you go further down, you pass the monastery of the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts (Picpussen). At the foot of Sint-Antoniusberg is Damiaanplein with the Sint-Antonius Chapel and Damien's tomb.

By car

Leuven itself is easily accessible by car via the motorways. The town lies at the intersection of two major motorways: E40 and E314.

However, Leuven city centre is kept car-free as much as possible. Parking in the city centre is very limited. It is best to park in one of the peripheral car parks.

Take the Leuven exit and try to get on the city ring road (R23). If you are driving on Naamsesteenweg (N251) towards Leuven, drive up to the Leuven ring road (‘Naamsepoort’).

It is best to enter Leuven through ‘Naamsepoort’. You then come to Naamsestraat.

Keep driving until you cannot/may not go any further and turn left. This is the Sint-Antoniusberg. Going further down, you pass the monastery of the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts (Picpussen). At the foot of Sint-Antoniusberg is Damiaanplein with Sint-Antonius chapel and Damien's tomb.

You cannot park your car here. For that, you have to return to Naamsestraat. You drop your fellow travellers off at Damiaanplein and take a left. You keep driving until you can go no further and then turn right up a steep slope. At the top of Naamsestraat, you have no choice but to turn right. You are now at the Heilig-Hartziekenhuis and near an underground car park.
